Hussain Talat 34-ball 48* helped Islamabad United notch up a win in the low-scoring encounter against Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League game in Dubai on Sunday (February 25).
After inserting Multan in, the bowlers led by Rumman Raaes, who took the initial scalp of Kumar Sangakkara, then came back to bowl beautifully in the death, firing yorkers at will as he set up the bowling effort. Multan never got going and were 31/4 at one stage before Shoaib Malik and Kieron Pollard put on a 54-run stand but Andre Russell dismissed them both and the innings capitulated thereafter. Multan could only manage 113 in the end.
Chasing a low score, Islamabad lost opener Luke Ronchi for a duck and Imran Tahir ignited Multan’s hopes with a three-fer which included a double-wicket maiden and the big wicket Russell first ball but Talat took matters into his own hands by first seeing off the legspinner’s threat and then powering his side home with a 34-ball 48 which included four 4s and three 6s.
Despite the loss, Multan still stay top of the table, while Islamabad opened their account with today’s win.
Brief Scores: Multan Sultans 113 in 19.5 overs (Shoaib Malik 35; Rumman Raaes 3-13) lost to Islamabad United 117/5 in 17.4 overs (Hussain Talat 48*; Imran Tahir 3-19) by 5 wickets.
